Born Daniel Gilbert Lakey on a cold December day in 1963 to loving parents Johnnie Henry Lakey and Jessie Mae Bucek Lakey. Was born in Jonesboro Arkansas and have spent all but 8 years of my life in this same town. Six of those eight years was spent in the US Navy Nuclear Power program in training and then four years aboard the USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI. Then a couple of years after getting out of the navy in 1990 working at Arkansas Nuclear One commercial power plant in Russellville, Arkansas, where I met my wife of 20 years Cheryl Lynn Carter Lakey.
We have two children, Courtney, age 19 and John Paul (JP) age 17. We are living back in the house I was brought to after my birth.
I spent 17 years working for Smurfit-Stone corrugated container plant until the closure of the plant in July of 2011. The last few years there I worked as the Safety and Quality manager and developed a true passion for safety. I am currently unemployed and looking for a job while working on my family ancestry and putting some of my early memories down for posterity, thus the creation of this blog.
